I had to cut out all the dairy products when breastfeeding because my baby couldn't digest milk products and I switched to soy formula. A friend told me that it took her son three weeks to get the residuals of dairy products out of her son's system, and it took my daughter about two weeks to see progress with the soy and the non-dairy diet. Sometimes babies have gas even after changing diets and using different formulas. (I know what you are going through, I suffered through it the first couple of months. It's hard watching your baby be uncomfortable.) The gas is usually gone in another month or two as you figure out what they can eat and as their digestive systems mature.
You might want to switch to another formula, if milk-based maybe try soy formula. If you do switch, stick with it though, changing formulas may make your baby's gas worse for the first few days as he/she gets use to it. If you keep changing formulas then the digestive system doesn't have time to get used to the formula. I thought about changing to non-iron and after researching I found that iron is one of the most essential ingredients in development for your baby. Before changing formulas talk with your pediatrician. Make sure that it has dha, ara and has iron unless your pediatrician recommends a particular formuIa.
In the mean time you can help to ease the pain by doing bicycle motions with your daughter's legs, lots of floor time, and tummy rubs when she is relaxed. Standing straight up and being held straight up are probably more comfortable. You can also place her across your lap facing down and gently but firmly pat her bottom and her back. Mylecon didn't work so great for my daughter, the gas pains were too powerful, but maybe they'll work for your daughter. Hope this was helpful

Hi, sometimes babies do have alot of gas to pass. What you don't want is gas and upset stomach. My son is now 5 month old. First check and make sure you are not eating anything that is gassy since you do breastfeed. Also check the nipple hole of the bottle and make sure the formula is not coming out to fast. It should only be 1 drop every 2 seconds. If coming out to fast this will really give baby gas. Also make sure your baby burps after each feed. Sometimes its a long process but they will eventually burp. A really good product to have on hand is 'baby Oval'. Baby Oval is an instant gas relief for infant children. It helps to ease there pain, and keep 'gripe water' on hand too . I use the alcohol free myself. So don't worry your baby will do fine. Take care.

I have a 4 month old breastfed daughter too. Has he ever had a bottle? My daughter fought them for awhile, but now she'll take them from anyone EXCEPT me. She likes the similac advance formula, but she has expensive tastes and likes the ready-made bottles and not the powdered formula. It's okay for now though bc she only gets a bottle once before bed. Also, there's no guarantee your son will take formula right away. You might have to rent a pump from the hospital for a month and work on mixing half breastmilk, half formula, then increase the formula. It costs $35 a month to rent a pump here (I live in Iowa), so I wouldn't go out and buy a pump if I were you. There's nothing wrong with choosing to stop breastfeeding at 4 months. It doesn't make you a "bad" mom...

If you haven't taken dairy out of your diet try that. It's the most common reason for extra gassy babies that are breastfed. try that for a few days and see if that helps. Also if that doesn't help it coould be the formula if after you've taken dairy out and shes still unhappy and uncomfortable you might want to talk to the ped. about a lactaid formul to see if that helps. Meanwhile get some mylicon gas drops from the local drug store and you can give her an entire dropperful...i know it says onkly .6 on the box but it is VERY okay to give her a full does do this before feedings and bedtime. YOU CAN NOT OVER DOSE on gas drops!!!
( unless you give them the entire bottle!!!)

Check your diet. Start cutting out foods and then replace them slowly, seeing how she is. Some babies have a milk intolerance so if you eat dairy, it effects their digestive tracts. And if the formula is milk based, it could be causing extra problems. Others may be a whey intolerance. Don't forget about mylicon infant gas drops. Works like a charm every time. And they're safe for a 1 month old. You could also use Gripe water, fennel tea or other herbal remedies found at a natural food store. Check out the website Kellymom. They have loads of information on breastfeeding issues. They were a big help when I was nursing, lots of answers to any question you can think of.

Are you eating healthy or maybe eating foods that can be causing her to be gassy? Whatever you eat is absorbed by your baby. Broccoli, milk, eggs, tomatoes are some of the foods that could be causing her gas. Are you giving her mylicon drops for the gas? You can place a warm towel on her tummy to help pass the gas better. If that doesn't work you could try gripe water. It's all natural and sold at health stores to ease colic and gas. Your daughter could also have colic.

Mylicon and Gripe Water helped calm my breastfed daughter. Hang in there it will get easier.

Anything you eat like brocili, colliflower, beans, caffine, chocolate and many other things will give your baby gas...while breastfeeding you need to consume a pretty plain diet. To help her pass the gas give her some infant gas drops, like Mylicon, or Gerber makes one as well. It will break the gas bubble up in her little tummy and make it easier for her to pass.

check you own diet ,what are you eating that could be affecting her, aside from that call the local health nurse ,they should visit for free[at least they do here]mixing the formula may be a problem as well, many babies are allergic to certain ones,be very careful of those with added iron in it,that can cause the bowels to constipate.......otherwise at that age don't put off seeing the doctor................good luck

Check and see if the formula you are using is iron-fortified (has iron in it.) My son was iron intolerant and our paediatrician told me to take him off of it. Within one day, the gassiness stopped. They do make iron free formulas for this reason.
Hope that helped!

have you thought about what is in your diet , if you are breastfeeding you have to remember the baby is only reacting to what is your body.if you are drinking soft drink you need to cut it down or stop drinking it all together. baby is in pain thats why she may be upset try burping her, rub her bellythere is something you can buy in the supermarket called gripe water i found that it worked really well if this all fails call your local baby community centre.
