Pawn shops are your best bet. Whatever price they have you know that even if they gave you 50% off, they are still making a lot of money. But you have to be careful, sometimes they don't know the quality of a ring and you could be buying a piece of crap that is one step up from industrial grade. Are you looking for a 1 carat total weight or a 1 carat solitare? Solitare is going to cost you. Also, look at the depth of the stone. If it looks flat but with a big surface, it is less expensive than one with depth. Do you have a loop? You should be able to buy one or maybe they will let you use theirs. You will be able to see the inclusions better. Color is really important too. The key is to Shop, Shop, Shop. So you know when you find a good deal. Also, it wouldn't be a bad idea to tell them you only have...(half of what they ask) and it's between this ring and another one that is that price at another store that you really like also. You may have to walk out...if they let you leave then sit in the car (hopefully you brought someone along) and talk, then go back in and say...."what is the least you will take for it. Can't hurt. Good luck. Have you tried the paper? People are always trying to sell jewelry in the want ads.

thrift stores, pawn shops or the classified ads.

I know you dont want to hear ebay, but ebay probably has the biggest selection.
