There's this guy that had attempted to jump off the golden gate bridge 2 times already, but was saved by the police. he tries to jump for the third time. should he be saved, or let him jump and die? What's your opinion?

did you know that every day, about 6 people jump off the bridge to suicide? this is all recorded with cameras attached to the bridge. unbelieveble isn't it?

my opinion: i say, save him, but bring him to a shrink or counselor. since he insists on jumping from the golden gate bridge after being saved 2 times, he might be calling for help or attention. if we just let him jump, this will most likely cause traffic when the poilce come, and more news about the incident, and wouldn't the resue people have to get into the water to find his body? i don't think they will leave his body in the water if they know that he jumped. it's too troublesome.

If the police took him off of the bridge he was most likely already sent to a psychologist at a hospital. I would absolutely try to help him. Depression is a serious illness. Ironically many people that commit suicide are actually scared of dieing. In the moment they become so overwhelmed with thoughts and feelings that they are not thinking perhaps how they might if those overwhelming feelings were slightly disheightened.

Of course he should be saved. Who knows what would happen if no one showed up to stop him. Suicide should never be taken lightly. Sometimes, the attempts in themselves are symptoms of mental illness, like borderline personality disorder for instance. Just think about it though, just the idea that he has done this 3 times already? That alone says there's something wrong. That could be part of an illness. Many people may feel the way you do. But, mental illness is a serious thing. Suicide attempts are very serious. This man obviously needs help he's not getting...so he'll continue this behavior until he does.

If the police are called to the incident, they are obligated to attempt to save his life. I believe he is then 5150'd (the number is from the California Welfare and Institutions Code), which means he is placed in an involuntary 3-day hold, during which there is some attempt at counseling and medication.

I'm not sure they can do a 5250 (2-week hold).

i think he should be saved, if he feels the need to jump of that bridge 3 times, maybe check him into a mental institute. just a thought.
but yes definitely save him.
it hurts a family so much to see a family member commit suicide.
i would know, my cousin just killed herself about 3 weeks ago.

Save him its a way for asking for help. If he jumped and Say was snagged by Police, he should be institutionalized.

Honestly, I would allow him to jump and wait for his body to float up. I'm not being mean but there are too many issues to worry about. Think about it like this...it takes less time to clean up his body than it does to try to talk him down!
