This only happens occasionally and does not seem to be related to engine temperature. However it does seem to happen more often in cooler weather.

i own a repair shop, and a bad throttle position sensor will cause this to happen, and also a sticking linkage will do it too,but the throttle position sensor is usually the cause of this,,you can take it by any auto zone for a free scan to see whats causing this to happen, and they can tell you in a few minutes exactly what it is,and there good at doing diagnostic work also,,this is the best way to do this,i wouldn't buy one part for it until i knew for sure what it was,,electrical parts are expensive,,and cannot be returned once put on,,so be sure before you buy anything,,good luck i hope this help,s..have a good x-mas.

Throttle position sensor.I had a camaro that done the same thing. If you are running rough and have black smoke,it could be the temp sending unit.
