Our laundry room has the main floor drain and the floor has been wet and there is dirt that is backed up also our basement shower has dirt, (sand and tiny rock) on the bottom of it now. It doesn't appear there is any sewage, just dirt and sand. Is there anything I can do to get the drain cleared or will it require roto rooter or similar plumbers to fix?

Thank you everyone, I have roto rooter coming in the morning. The last thing I want is sewage flooding the basement!

it sounds as though your main drain pipe has collapsed. You can try to snake it out and if that solves the problem, great. But if a tree root or other object has cracked or broken the main drain, you will have to get the experts in to fix it.

Just try running a snake down your drain to try and clear up any blockage you have.

sand? could be you have a broken line but either way if it is backed up it needs to be snaked first then maybe replaced
