My experience - curbside they are SURE to lose your luggage, and you tip for the "privilege."

At the counter - they may lose your luggage.
(The more people handling it, the bigger the chance of losing it).

My boy. Checking-in curbside means you're at a real hotel. The rich and famous never check-in at the counter. We require V.I.P. treatment. I would never find myself standing in a line with "common" people. Honestly!
