This is a fun game and to have a lot of fun, you should not bring a fork because you would want your gift to be most popular (and stolen to its limit). I've played this game often and had to buy the gifts for the team. It was always hilarious fun!
The white elephant gift exchange is a popular party game played during the winter holiday season in the United States. The objective of the game is for guests of a party to each contribute one gift to the game, and ultimately each guest walks away with one gift from the game. Along the way is a random drawing to determine the order in which players get to unwrap gifts or "steal" previously opened gifts.
Some fun things are those nerf guns - guys love these; any electronic toy, karaoke ($10 at Toys R Us) etc. The bum gifts would be baby dolls, old DVD movies that no one would like - you will get lots of laughs as people try to give theirs away to be stolen if they end up with it. Have fun.

This is what I'm doing for the gift exchange I'm doing Friday: since it is a "white elephant" gift exchange I'm getting a plastic model of an elephant from a craft or hobby store and am going to paint it white. To add some usefulness I'll hang some festive Christmas earrings from it's ears. The girls should like it and if a guy gets it i'm sure he can find someone to gift the earings to.

I am going to a White Elephant party on Saturday and am giving a gift certificate to Netflix as my gift along with an unopened DVD that I am "re-gifting" and a package of popcorn. Something like that would be a good White Elephant gift.

I had the impression that white elephant gifts were cheap but nice.
How about a paperback book, a small bottle of fancy lotion, a Christmas CD, or an inexpensive alarm clock?

anything is fair game at a white elephant. Go to the dollar store and shop for unique yet usefull items. How bout a serving spoon or socks or hair ties. The dollar store has endless possibilities you could even pick up some Christmas ornaments.

The idea is to have the most creative elephant gift. I don't really like these (waste of money) How about a few lumps of coal. Have fun.

I could think of three things:
1. A Christmas themed mug (like a mug with Santa Clause or a Snowman) with a little bag of coffee or hot chocolate.
2. A nice ornament
3. A nice candle
Hope this helps!
