You will have to rewire it. You buy a new cable with 3 wires and exchange it for the old one. Then you have a ground wire for your new light fixture.

Before you go about re wiring, see if the electrical box and conduit are metal. If it is, many older homes use the metal conduit as the ground. Simply secure the ground wire to the box.

Also, you may want to check to see if the ground is already connected to the box. Usually a bear copper wire if it is.

If it requires a ground, you may be in for a large cost for a re wire.

Good Luck!

if you can replace the wire or chances are you have a older home in most cases called knob and tube wiring that has cloth insulation then you have 3 choices attach a wire from the mounting box to the fixture or pull a new wire in or forget the ground it has been like that for years (not recommended) but if you can pull a ground in from another box

is you box metal or phenolic plastic, if it's plastic you will not have a grouns source, even if it's metal unless you have a voltage tester toi check from the hot ( while it's on ) to the metal box to see if it's grounded, then you have no ground
