I moved to another state, Georgia, and everyone here at my school is like calling me like a "prep" and im really popular, is it really a big deal?? it's not like its bad but it bothers me, because I know they mean it in a bad way, and they're also like "rich boyy" or "He's from California!" and stuff like that..... sooo...what's the deal, am I that prep everyone talks about or..... what??? thnx

Stereotypes are a big issue no matter who you are. Some people strive to be in a stereotypical group, such as "popular kids", and some are desperately seeking a way out.

The way most kids get "Branded" with a stereotypical listing is through ignorance of others. (This is a major theme in a book called THE OUTSIDERS, which deals with this problem and I highly suggest you read it!) Most kids like to easily categorize someone and therefore not have to learn anything more about them. But the ignorance can also spawn from you. Do you find yourself mentally thinking that certain kids are certain types of people based just on what they look like or even how they act? If so you are your own problem in a way.

If you want to "stop your stereotype" but maintain your true identity try reaching out to kids that aren't necessarily people you'd normally talk to. Talk to the "geek" or the "goth" or the "tough guy". You'll find out soon enough that (just like you) just because a kid is branded as a certain "type" of person doesn't mean he or she is so different from you. Eventually you may even find your truest friends this way, people who won't judge you on what you look like, but on who you really are.

Good luck on your problem, I'm rooting for ya.

i have that same problem, kinda. they call me rich girl and call me prep and other stuff. mostly they joke around with you, sometimes they mean it and sometimes they dont. they just like making fun of you, in a friend way. i got use to it and now know that they are just joking. i mean what exactly is a prep? people have different definitions of a prep. to me, you arent a prep it just seems like you are a classy guy with some money. just cause you have those things does not mean you are rich, but your parents finance money well. if it bothers you, dont say anything it will only make it worse, trust me. unless you know that they wont give you a hard time about it. hope i helped.

i think of you will do good issues including your guidance. you're completely doing the dazzling element some human beings like your mom are purely "stupid and obdurate". I also have a feeling you will seem back in this time in 10 years sitting on your condominium and you will smile because of the fact which you overcame what all of us mentioned approximately you. BTW purely bear in mind that is not proper what human beings think of roughly you the only element that concerns is what you think of of your self. i'm rooting so which you could be triumphant and tutor all of them incorrect. good success!

Preps aren't bad. Unless your friends are just teasing you. They could also be jealous because of how wealthy you are.

you shouldn't let it bother you that much because it's obvious that they're just jealous that they don't have all the material objects that you have
