William Peterson, but the movie was Manhunter, based on the book Red Dragon. It was the first movie with Hannibal Lecter, but Brian Cox plays hannible lecter in this movie. Great movie.

William Peterson plays Gil Grissom in CSI
He played the profiler in the movie MANHUNTER (not RED DRAGON). That was the very first Hannibal Lechter film, which focused more on the case than the "good" doctor. Also, that Lechter was played by Brian Cox.

He played Will Graham in the movie "Manhunter." This was the first movie to have Hannibal Lecktor (this was the spelling in the credits of this movie only), played by Brian Cox, in it. The movie was renamed "Red Dragon: The Curse of Hannibal Lecter" when it was shown on television after "Silence of the Lambs" came out, and "Red Dragon" was the original script title, and the name of the book the movie was based on. They remade the movie in 2002 as "Red Dragon."
