Eureka PowerLine are small canister brushless vacs that are powerful, light and cheap. The only real drawback to good brushless vacs is that you go through a lot of bags. The main thing with a vac is the strength of the suction and this one has as much as anything you can buy.
Power brushes don't add much to cleaning ability, but add a lot of noise and friction/wear. The brushes don't do much because in order to loosen dirt that's below the surface in carpets/rugs they have to push fibers out of the way. Pet hair (among other things) clogs the brush pretty quickly so it can't push fibers aside, preventing the brush from loosening deep dirt without reducing the friction the brush puts on the carpet/rug. And they're still noisy even when clogged
Brushes (and lights) make direct comparisons to brushless vacs difficult since they draw power away from suction. 15 amp brushless and power brush vacs use the same amount of power, but the brushless vac puts all of it to suction while a power brush and floor light will draw as much as half of that power away from suction. They'll do about the same job on carpet (as long as the brush isn't clogged) but the brushless one will do a better job on hard floors.
Cyclonic chambers like the one in your Dyson keep suction constant but don't add to suction pwer, regardless of claims to the contrary. They prevent particles from clogging the collection chamber's exhaust so you can fill ithe bin without a loss of power, but they don't make the vac more powerful.
btw-the Eureka I mentioned is the one that convinced me to give away my Oreck.

Orick vacuums work pretty good, but they have got to be the absolute loudest vacuum I have ever, ever, heard. I can only describe the noise volume as being pretty comperable to an industrial carpet shampooer.
For this reason alone, I would not reccommend purchasing this vacuum to anyone.
I hope this helps.
Happy Holidays!

Yes I used one tonight. I have a Bissel and it is very good as well and you can get it at Wal-Mart or other stores for a cheaper price. It is lightweight and requires no bag.
