I'm a former chiropractic assistant and I can tell you that we treated MANY pregnant women with the same issues. Pregnancy causes the release of a hormone called "relaxin" which, like the name states, causes a loosening of your connective tissues. It's supposed to help your pelvis spread and widen for delivery, but because it's non-specific, it affects all connective tissues in your body. This is why they say no sudden twisting, turning or excessive knee stress during pregnancy because it could cause injury.
My suggestion to you is to see a chiropractor who can help realign your body through gentle adjustments and who can also suggest pregnancy-safe stretching and massage techniques that you can do at home to help alleviate your pain. The other good thing about chiropractic adjustments during pregnancy is they help ready your lower body for delivery. There have been actual studies done which prove that chiro treatments during pregnancy result in smoother deliveries with less injury to the mother. This in turn increases the chance of quick bonding and better breast feeding with your baby (because it lessens the risk of complications wherein baby is separated from the mother for a substantial amount of time after the birth.)
Best of luck and I really hope that helped!

(I would like to add that nothing annoys me more than when someone gives a thumbs down to EVERYONE else's answer simply because it isn't THEIR answer. There are a variety of valid answers on this question-you know who you are.)

I'm 40 weeks and have had that for about 6 weeks now, only occasionally when I turn over in bed or try to get up off the sofa. I think its because baby is getting bigger and doesn't have much room. I mentioned it to my doctor and she said it was normal so i've not been worried about it. I think baby jsut gets into a comfy position so when I want to move he doesnt and lets me know it by giving me a good kick!!

Try a back rub on your hands and knees. That's the only thing that worked for me. That way, all the weight of the baby is off of your back during the massage.

ha! make your husband/loverr give you a back massage!
or. If you have a heating pad. Well. it's not really a pad. It like a big ben ba, and you heat up in [in the microwave] and lay it across your back. I use one for legcramps, neck painsd back pains. It works really well. I think any kind of heating pad wors though, not just the long bean bag kind!
