It COULD be stuck in there. Many, many women come in and say they can't find their tampon. I know, sounds strange but it does happen. The best thing to do is go get checked. We have seen this so many times, when women are unsure if they have taken it out and it ends up being in there. You don't want to have it stuck in there and develop an infection. They are not nice, very odorous and after awhile you do get TSS. Which is not nice. If it is in there and you go to the doctor, they will probably still put you on antibiotics afterwards just to make sure you didn't or aren't developing an infection. Trust me, it can be in there without you knowing of feeling it. We see it all the time, the most we have seen been stuck was 5. She had to come in and have them taken out!!

So, go to the doctor, they will check you. If all checks out then you will have peace of mind that you're ok and have nothing to worry about.

First of all don't freak out.
Plenty of people have done that and had no problems. TSS is rare remember.

HOWEVER, you should still definitely go to your doc/gyn asap if you think there is one in there.
It could just be that you are paranoid, I don't blame you, but I don't know your anatomy and even you won't be able to see or feel all the way so it will be hard to tell if one has indeed "got lost" in there.
My thoughts are however that it is not there if you can't find/reach anything.
There's not that much place for one to go and the string and actual tampon should be fairly easy to reach if it has moved further up than usual.

Try things like checking the box to see how many is left and trying to count how many times you would have changed, does it add up? Or if you have a bin look through that for used ones or the wrappers etc. Some of that might give you a clue.

as for TSS:
Lookup the symptoms. Generally there will be a fever and a rash. If you have any of the symptoms, namely those DO NOT delay in going to the ER. But not everyone gets it (even after a few days of a tampon being left in) and there's no set time to get it.
The time for changing tampons is just a time when bacteria multiply enough to start putting you at risk. Not everyone even has the TSS bacteria, however any bacteria in general is harmful and you get a lot of bacteria on a used tampon so it is harmful even without the TSS risk.

This is serious. If you can`t find it, you should go to a Dr. straight away. The first signs of TSS are sickness & dizzyness. You will also notice a smell like rotting flesh down there as well. You should check again straight away too. The chances are you will be able to reach the string to pull it out. Also, if you do find anything there, make sure it all comes out. The tampon might have started to disintegrate and fall into pieces as you pull it out. Leaving one bit of it there is as bad as leaving the whole tampon there.

Good luck....

Im guessing it wouldnt smell the best if there was a tampon in there so if it smells u do and just see your doc anyways and wouldnt the string be hanging out still cant be that deep

Well, you can't "lose" a tampon in there. Try looking again...if you cant find anything then you are probably fine. If you are really concerned, see a gyno and they can give you a professional "everything's a-okay".

If you cant feel anything up there you probably took it out and forgot that you did. If you get a fever, get it checked out.

if you didnt take it out then it would have still been in the same place as it was...it wouldnt have moved upward...unless you were drunk and doing something weird and stupid...otherwise i dont think that is it.
