quite a while to be honest. I have been playing guitar off and on for 8 years and I would say that I am "above average" at best. It depends how much time you put into practicing. You can be pretty good at guitar by practicing half an hour to an hour each day. It is rumored that Eddie Van Halen practiced for so many hours each day that he had to take take long breaks in between to let some of the skin on his fingers grow back. Probably just a rumor, but you get the idea!

Depends on how much you practice. As for being up to par with the likes of those 3 - I would say that is pure virtuoso talent. If you don't have it young (say by like 25), you'll probably never have it.

It depends on how fast you learn and if you have natural talent. My brother has been playing for over a year and he's gotten pretty good, but he's learning new things and improving every day. It can take months or years... you just have to find your rythem and keep practicing.

depends on your talent, I've been playing for 30 years and I'm really good, but I've met kids playing 2 years that were better than me

That depends on talent level. Most are never that good. I wish I was. I think I'll go practice.

They took years. As for others, I have seen people pick it up so quickly it pissed me off! Then there were others that never got the hang of it.
