I am starting a degree program at a community college next month, I'm kinda not liking that I may be the oldest person in my classes, any advice? I am 27, and I'm afraid I will be going to school with alot of 18+ people..

there are always a good 3 or 4 older people in all of my classes. it's totally normal. and besides, 27 is not that old at all. i don't think anyone will even notice your age unless you wear a sign or something. even in university classes, that age isn't that unusual. it's cool you're going to college; have a good time.

I'm 31 and a college student. I have recently attended community college and am now at a 4 year school.

Much to my surprise, I was not the oldest. Schools have many non-traditional students. I think my major is especially common as a second career, so that is also a factor to determine the age of your classmates. There are even students in my classes 10 and 20 years older than I am.

Not sure if this give you any comfort, but I'm 39 and am not always the oldest person in my classes! I decided on the cc route, as for generals it is less expensive, closer to where I live, and the classes fit in with home/work demands. The profs love having older students, it really adds a new twist to the class. I've made quite a few friends, even though some are the same age as my kids!

Good luck to you, but you'll be fine and do well.

A lot of people attend community college when they are over the age of 27. My friend's mother is currently taking college courses and shes 30, and shes not the only one in her class over the age of 27 either. So don't worry about it, I'm sure that you'll be fine. Best of Luck with your courses.

I am 31, almost 32 and I attend classes full time at a small college. I am definitely the oldest person in most of my classes, but there are alot of other older students. I think it's great you are going to get an education! Don't be nervous, you'll do great.

I went to a community college for two year before I transfered to a four year school and I have seen young people, middle aged people, and senior citizens. You will have at least one person that is close to your age or older than you. I would say dont worry about it. You will be fine. I didnt think that it was strange to see older people going to community college they were just going to take some classes are were getting a degree.

Let's put it this way:
I have been attending college off and on since 1986. I got 2-Technical AA Degrees back in 2003. Now I am back in college to get my teaching certificate and special ed endorsement.

I just turned 39 and will be 41 when I complete my degree.

I hope finally be done with a huge chunk of my learning but being a teacher, I will forever be attending classes to keep my credentials current.

You will be with a lot of 18+ (don't forget that +, though) but so what. Believe me, you will be more focused on your studies, have the best relationship with your professors, and you probably won't be the oldest one either. Older truly is wiser. You don't have to contend with YOURSELF being 18 and all that 18 entails. You've been there, done that...now you can focus on the truly important part of college...your studies! Besides, you'll get a kick out of those younger than yourself. Good luck!

If you take the standard night classes 3 credit hours 6-9:30 once a week you might find that your the youngster. These are the best classes to take -not many dopey 17-23 year olds. Mainly adults that want something out of life.

Yes,.. and some times Minors in High School go for part of the day.

So you may see people as young as 13 and as old as,.. 70's,.. 80's,...

Usually it's 20-somethings and people who are Middle Aged (40's, 50's..). The Middle Aged have many many wide different reasons. Some waited for the kids to get through college,.. some got sick of haveing the type of job they had all their life without college and want to finally get their dream job,...
