Bethlehem is lying sleepily, unaware of the great birth that's about to take place in it. An event of worldwide and all-time importance is about to take place, but the city is not aware of it.

Jesus is born, the angels are watching, and the "morning stars...proclaim his holy birth" (apparently to the Wise Men). The angels praise God.

The gift is given "silently" to the town, and also to human hearts today who are ready to have Jesus born in them.

Jesus, please come now and enter our hearts--"be born in us today". No one can hear Jesus coming in this way, but anyone who wants him now can receive him into their hearts.
