I'm 53, my best female friend and I have been friends since we were about three years old...Last time I was in math class 50 years was longer than 20...My best male friend and I have known each other since the late 60s...still more than 20 years...
Nothing has ever almost destroyed either frienship because we accept one another as we are and don't expect one another to change to be what we THINK the other should be like. Loving someone means accepting them as they are. There have been far too many ways we have supported one another from highschool romances and breakups to gay rights marches to helping move back to California after a marriage break up.

My best friend and I have been friends since we were both in kindergarten, which was 20 yrs ago. We just get each other, there are things that never need to be said between us we just know. And the strange thing is we were not your typical best friends, we didn't hang out all the time. Most times it was just at school but it was just that sense of "knowing" each other. Nothing has ever came between us, she and I love and respect each other to never let anything come between our friendship.

Yup. It lasted so long because we have constant communication, we make time for each other, mutual respect, knowing how to keep secrets, accepting each other faults, letting each other know that you will always be there when you are needed, giving sensible advice even if its not what she wants to hear, and lots of laughter. So far, nothing had happened which almost destroyed our friendship and I do hope nothing will.

I've barely been alive for more than 20 years, so no. Actually I didn't keep in contact with most of my high school friends when I went to college.

When my brother passed away at age 25 he had so many people atteding his funeral it was INSANE. He once told me, "if you want to keep your friends, don't see them all the time."
