Sprint Broadband is supposed to be, but if you read the fine print, it is not. Sprit also offers the adapter for your laptop and it is TRUE broadband, unlike Verizon.

Good luck finding broadband service in your area. Your local cable company does NOT offer it?

Try satellite, that's iffy too tho. If there's not alot of people using satellites in your area then the signal will be weak. More satellites=more signal.

Good luck!

Broadband is purely dependant on the status of the phone/media lines that run in your neighborhood and who owns them (i.e. the company has to offer DSL service if the lines are copper)

What I did recently was call Verizon and have them install fiber-optic lines in the place of our old cable lines. It cost $20 (which they eventually refunded b/c I did not use the service because of a previous broadband contract with another company).

So you might want to call up comanies (not sure if Verizon service is available in your area) and ask if there is an option to update lines so that you can get the service.

You can always get satellite, if your house isn't surrounded by huge trees or something like that. Try looking into Wildblue - its about $50 a month and isn't super fast, but is a long shot ahead of dialup. You can also try mobile broadband from providers like Sprint or Cingular, but that might not be available in your area either.

When I ordered dsl over the phone they shipped me the modem and I installed it myself. Give that a try. DSL is cheaper (and slower) than cable.
