Alrighty - since you trashed the original Synaptics program, which controls the ability to scroll with your touchpad (some of these other people are apparently not understanding the fact that this is a LAPTOP), you're going to need to redownload the driver. Head to the Dell support page and punch in your model and model number and see if they provide a driver for your touchpad. If you can't find it on their download site, you can try the generic drivers from Synaptic, but they might not necessarily work properly. If all else fails, call up Dell again and they will be able to point you to the right place to redownload the driver.

@Linuxiac: Maybe she's sick of sitting on hold for 45 minutes only to get connected to a guy in India who can't understand her question and eventually concludes that she has a virus and needs to reinstall Windows period. Yahoodiots is a decent word though.

It's not possible that drivers can be deleted just like that. And if they really are, you wouldn't be able to use the mouse at all. But as what you described, you could not scroll down and up the page, but you can perform clicks and dragging.

This may mean that there's a minor problem with your mouse. Did you try to change the mouse and see if it works? Well maybe you should so that you could isolate the problem.

Mouses are plug-and-play devices and should not require much installation. When you plug in the new one, simply shut down and start up your system and test.

Mine could say "recharge me already!" in case you have sticky fingered toddlers and your mouse is yucky, do away with the batteries, or unplug the mouse. Use a disinfecting wipe to bathe your mouse, yet do no longer spray something on it. purely be confident you squeeze out any extra liquid from the wipe first. you elect to shrink the possibility of moisture making it into the mouse itself. if your mouse has a ball as a substitute of an optical sensor, do away with the retention ring below and come out the ball. sparkling it with isopropyl alcohol (attainable at any drug save) and a lint unfastened textile. turn the mouse the different way up. interior the ball hollow area, intently use your fingernail and scrape off the 'mouse cheese' from the rollers interior. you may could tutor the mouse good ingredient as much as get the bits to fall out. go away the mouse unused in one day. They next day, reassemble it, plug it lower back in or placed the batteries lower back in. And yeah... area of youngster proofing the laptop incorporates some floor regulations: Wash your palms in the previous and after making use of a keyboard used with the aid of people. No foodstuff or drink on a similar time as making use of the laptop, or everywhere close to it, relatively for toddlers. fairly I insist on the comparable from grownup technicians interior the occupation.

Do you have a driver CD for the mouse... then reload the drivers again. Otherwise you can repaid the OS (this will reinstall the correct mouse scroll driver back)... you need the Win OS CD for that.
