The are not forcing themselves to fit into a circle hole when they are a square. Nerd kids might appear happier. Most people have the same inner feelings and levels of happiness. Maybe Nerd kids might be smart kids. They might express all feelings easier not just happiness. Maybe being happy is not the popular thing to do. Most people after High School look back and think they were a nerd.

Popularity flees the minute you graduate and walk away from high school. Nerds find vanity frivolous and dumb. They go out of their way to be what they want to be. All the nerds I ever knew can also count on their friends as they are a different breed of character than an attention seeker. Popular kids have to worry about being included because many are weak of character. Unless, that is, they are an exception to this. Being honest and friendly will naturally draw people to you. It is not based on meanness and exclusion. Nerds are also dedicated to whatever hobbies or interests they develop and are able to have a lot more in common with their buddies.

I think it is because they can't fall in social rank as much as popular kids can. That means they are not as stress about apperence and can be happier. Also they usually know who is their true friends, unlike popular frieds who will usually turn on you given the chance.

Because we fantasize about our Ten Year High School Reunion when all the popular kids will be overweight and poor, holding a job at some fast food restaurant, while we rule the world. At least, that's what me and my friends do.

Well...I'm not sure I completely agree with you BUT...
Us nerds aren't constantly trying to impress anyone or get anyone's attention. We just want to be ourselves. If someone likes us for it all the better, but if not then it's not our problems. I do know a few very geeky people who still manage to impress "popular" people, but not many. I would rather be hated for who I am then loved for who I'm not.

Speaking as an indisputable nerd (high school and beyond) it's because they don't worry at all about being popular, because they know it's completely impossible.

Could be because of the fact that they don't worry about their image as much as "popular kids" do in regards to others. They can live more care free, and stress free which makes them more happy...
