That is odd for a 2 week old to have tears without a eye infection. What do you mean by over production? I have 6 kids. They never cried tears at 2 weeks of age.

Babies are born with a great amount of YIN you know yin yang. As they grow this usually is depleted and regained by eating certain foods. The overproduction may be diagnosed as earth not controlling water or to much metal element in the your diet which your passing on these foods are foods like curries spicy stuff, rice and others.
Consult your pediatrician and a chinese medicine practitioner just to make sure all is ok. Chinese medicine has a lot of answers to the western worlds problems for thousands of years they have used them. And no I am not one but I have studied TCM for 8 years.

At 1 month my son's tears were welling out of his eyes (he wasn't crying though). His eyes got a little more red than usual. He had a blocked tear duct, which was resolved by putting a warm/wet washcloth on his eye (gently!). If your situation is similar, then that is what it probably is!

i'm not quite sure, but I know when my son was 2 weeks (2 weeks ago) he started getting really crusty eyes, and green boogers and stuff, so my pediatrician gave us some eye drops that are working pretty well..
