It is a legitimate test.

it is a good way to guage intellectual potential. It is not, however, a good way to guage common sense.

I am personally acquainted with a couple of geniuses who have little common sense.

No, I don't think so because I have worked with some people with high academic grades. Very intelligent on paper but lacked common sense.
Some people just grow and develop on a different pace.
Later on in life, they eventually turn out to be the same.
The IQ test is just a man made idea. I would not give the IQ test too much praise or respect.
Each child who is born is a gift. We don't know if a star has been born.

I think the IQ test has been well validated for certain uses, e.g. determining if a person is developmentally disabled, and that they will or will not benefit from a certain kind of schooling, and that they need to be under the care of a guardian, and that they should be treated with special care in the criminal justice system. It certainly is not a measure of a human's being's dignity and worth, or an indicator of how much investment should be made in that person's welfare.

That is pretty funny. If I designed an IQ test one of the segments would be about figuring out how to put things in the proper category and you would have just rated as an imbecile.

No. It doesn't test for emotional intelligence which is said to be more important than a persons IQ in determining success in life.

Also, people who are dyslexic can't take it as well as they could if they weren't dyslexic. ... What about blind people? I'm not sure what they do for them. Hopefully someone else knows.

sure why not? it really is up to those that believe it. if no one believes that this is a legitimate test then it will not be used for those purposes.

That depends upon for what it will be used. It is certainly not a measure of an individual's worth.

All it really does is tell the persons capacity to learn not their total knowledge level. And I think sometimes true genius lies in simplicity.
