I'm not fond of either Bush, but I've got to be honest with you. The worst U.S. President of all has got to come down to a two way contest between Grant and Harding.
Grant was elected based on his War record, and turned out to possess a simple honesty that didn't recognize it when his associates were ravenous wolves at the throat of the U.S. economy. Unfortunately, he ran for, and won, re-election so his bad performance extended for eight years.
Harding was a special case---he was chosen as the Republican candidate in 1920 after a marathon of a deadlock was unable to produce a strong candidate. This was the original "smoke filled room". Harding's greatest asset was that he looked like a President, and his comment on being elected was:"My God! This is a Hell of a place for a fellow like me!"
It was, indeed. His Presidency was even more scandal rocked than Grant's (or Nixon's in his second term). Unlike either of them, Harding had the good manners to die in his first term in office.
My vote for the worst of all: Warren G. Harding.

George Bush 41 was a gentleman who understood the power of American diplomacy and had a foreign policy of engagement with our adversaries (as witnessed by Baker's comments today about engaging Iran and Syria...he went to Syria 13 times as Sec. of State). I didn't agree with a lot of his domestic policies but I don't think he was a horrible president.

George Bush 43 is without question the worst president in the history of the country...

anyone ever heard of James Buchanan? right before Lincoln. He inadvertently helped escalate tensions between the north and south, leading to the Civil War.

It's still to Early to Judge Clinton And Bush.

Carter. He botched the Iran hostage situation. He allowed the foundation of what we have today in terrorism there. High gas prices. The list goes on and on.

Clinton was the worst leader in the modern era. He ruled on opinion and never took a tough position.

The best of modern times is Reagan.

We will see how Bush Jr does. If he passes the amnesty bill for illegals and does not kill some terrorists, he will be a failure.

Grant
And if you're thinking in terms of lives and property lost, economy wrecked, civil rights violated, then it is again a Republican: Lincoln.
In defense of Dems, Carter gave them a run for their money.

Franklin Pierce or John Kennedy. Neither accomplished a thing. Get a new theme. THis drum is beat to death. ALso do some reasearch. You just might learn something instead of parroting old tired cliches.
