I was just wondering because I have never heard of someone using Napster or Limewear when they have a Nano or Video Ipod. Can anyone out here help?

No you need iTunes in order to transfer your songs onto the ipod. People use countless ways (examples: LimeWIRE, importing CDs, buying music off the itunes store, etc) to get their songs or videos onto itunes. But you need to have itunes itself.
