Past tense means you are writing about something that has already happened. Many verbs that are past tense end in "ed" - shopped, walked, painted, etc. There are also irregular past tense verbs such as ran, sang, saw, wore, etc.

"Yesterday we walked to the library. On the way we saw robins and sparrows. The birds sang." Etc.

Using the sentence: I am taking a final exam. We will now change the sentence using past tense.

present tense is: am
past tense is: was

So the sentence would go like this:
I was taking a final exam.

This way the reader knows that the event took place. In other words it is in the past. I hope this helps a bit. Good Luck. If you need further help, I will be happy to help you more and even help you write the paper. You may email me at: kmeade01@yahoo.com

I RAN over the cat with my car,I RUBBED my dogs face in his own poop, And Then I BEGGED my wife to forgive me because I FORGOT to buy her flowers.

past tense is like "I did that" present tense would be "I am doing that" so its referring to what happend in the past. most past tense verbs in english have an "ed" at the end to show its past tense like "she danced" again present tense would be "she is dancing"

It just means it already happened. For example, "He rode his bike to the school and found the entire building had been demolished."

Rode
Walked
stepped
went

In all cases, it's already occurred so you write from this tense.
