I had Norton Security on my computer for years and it worked great. But then one day they came out with an upgrade. The install program popped up and told me I first needed to uninstall the old Norton software. Of course, it wouldn't uninstall. So I went to Norton/Symantec's website and found an incredibly complicated procedure for removing NAV and NIS which involved deleting files manually, editing the registry, and running an uninstall program from their website (which didn't work).

I replaced it with McAfee security software and it works great.

But Yahoo! is in bed with Symantec and puts this friggin' button on their toolbar that gives you the "opportunity" to try Norton security for free (uh-huh). I can't find a way to get rid of that button.

Sure it's just a nuisance, but this is MY computer, not Yahoo's, and > I < say what goes on it, not them. I despise companies that put crap on your computer that you don't want and didn't ask for, even little buttons.

Enemy 6230 - Like I said, it's no big deal. This question was more in the form of a complaint against Yahoo!'s intrusion, as I don't think there is really a way to delete it. But it has been there for at least a month. I don't think waiting a few days will help.

It'll go away after a few days, all on its own. Don't stress man, it's just a button....

go to grisoft.com get AVG it's free. to dump the Norton you will have to delete the files in your computer. It's a pain but once you dump norton and have the AVG you will be happy. By dumping the files it will also drop it off your toolbar.

.
I believe you can RIGHT click a blank space
on the tool bar >
and UNcheck items that you do NOT want
OR
when you RIGHT click
a window will open that will allow you to
send buttons to the side to unselect them.

Another way
can be to do a SEARCH on your computer for key words
NORTON
SYMANTEC
and delete any instance it finds.

If none of this works for you to get rid of that pest
you can try the REMOVE ON REBOOT tool.

Go to:
http://www.bjb-inc.com/products.asp
Scroll down to: (and click it to download)
Remove on Reboot Shell Extension - Free
1. Download it
2. To remove program >Right click on your program folder that you want removed
3. Left click sub-menu option: REMOVE ON REBOOT
4. Then reboot your pc
I've had lots of great luck with this little program. I think you'll like it too.

Note: To get to a program FOLDER (not just the icon) >
a. RIGHT click START > select Explore >
b. then in the Explore window, left panel >
c. scroll down to Programs >
d. then in Programs scroll down to the FOLDER that has the program you want to remove

e...then do the right click "remove on reboot" selection >
f. Restart your computer
