Are your speakers usb? unplug and replug them. Do you have a cd that came with your pc? It should have drivers on it. In the device manager, does it list "sound, video and game controllers". Have you ran the add hardware wizard? click start, settings, control panel, add hardware. follow on screen instructions. Where/whom did you buy the PC from - go to their website. Example - I had a dell laptop, I registered at dell.com, and gave it my product number. There was a link that allowed me to download any and or all of the drivers relevant to my system. Same with gateway desktop, same with Compaq desktop. PC Wizard might be able to help you learn more about the guts of your system, and thus determine what drivers you need, or enable you to better inform those you seek assistance from.

If you want to know if you r sound drivers are installed click start then right click my computer and click properties. then click on the hardware tap nd click on device manager if you see yellow question marks those are the drivers that are not installed if there is one for sound then u need to install sound cards

to follow up on pritash's answer...
in device manager, you can also look at the device's properties screen (l-click and choose properties). Take a look at the location listed- if it has PCI bus 0, or something to that effect, then that's on the mobo itself. if it has PCI bus Slot 1, or another #, then it's a PCI card.
I have to do that when I blow away my system and get a fresh start... my pc detects the mobo and PCI sound cards... I have to check the location to make sure which one to disable, and which one to update the drivers on.

attempt going into administration Panel >overall performance & Maintainance>equipment>gadget supervisor and spot if there's a question mark against different units because it must be a pci card that desires an emulator in the previous it could know the cardboard. If this does not artwork deploy the sound card manually utilising upload Hardware. wish this facilitates.
