Sims 2 wont install in my computer so I had best buy install it?

I am going to totally redo my computer so it is like new. But I was wondering if I will have to reinstall my sims 2. When I got sims 2 it would not install on my toshiba laptop. So I had to take it into Best Buy and have them install it in a exteral hardrive. I was just wondering if you think that I will have to take it in again and have them install it.
or is there another solution?

I got my laptop last christmas, it is a windows xp and is totally updated!

I think you will have to install it again. When you install a program it creates files in your windows register, so windows recognises that you have a program installed. Without it the game probably wont run properly or at all.

Best install it again in your new computer.
