An adverb describes a verb. It tells how you do something. Many adverbs (but not all) end in "ly." Some examples are:

quickly
softly
slowly

So, the adverb in your sentence would be "quietly" because it is describing how you are standing.

Just like adjectives describe nouns, adverbs describe verbs. First find the verb, (the action word) then look for the word that describes how the action was done.

In your example, "stand" is the verb. Now, HOW is the person standing? Quietly. That's the adverb.

Some examples are "ly" words like quickly, quietly, softly, etc., though there are a few that don't end in "ly."

tons of them end in "ly" but not all. The way I tell is that if you can subsititute the word in for the sentence below it most likely an adverb.

The boy runs ______.

^^ For example::
Quickly
Speedily
Fast

An adverb is what describes a verb in the example sentence it is describing how the boy runs.

Stand is the Verb, while Quietly is the Adverb.
Think of it like this.... "Quietly" is adding to the verb by giving it more definition. Without it he would just be standing. With it he is Standing Quietly.
