my neighbor won't cut his weeds!!!?
My next door neighbor has not cut his weeds and grass for the longest time. We live in California and so their is no reason for him not to cut it. He does work a lot and so I rarely see him and when I do see him he does seem like a decent man but I'm a little disappointed in the way he doesn't maintain his yard. We live in a safe neighborhood and all the neighbors maintain it but what should I do??

Put up a privacy fence and don't worry about it. Evidently keeping his yard trimmed isn't a priority with him. Or u could do what my neighbor next door did for the people in back of her, she paid the lawn man to cut it!!

Talk to him first and find out why he has the lawn he does. Maybe you can offer to find him a lawn service or a teenager to cut the grass.

But ultimately, it's his lawn, and forcing him to conform to other standards is not being a very good neighbor -- unless you are being a super-neighbor in other respects. The only exceptions are if his lawn is harboring pests -- bugs, mice, whatever. Then you do have a health issue, and you have a say.

If it really bugs you, offer to cut it yourself, or put up a really nice fence and ignore it.

(-: I agree with Robert Frost when he said, "Good fences make good neighbors." If you can't take the time to get to know him and be a real neighbor (and this may be your fault, or it may be his fault), a fence is probably your best answer.

Where I live there are health department rules that say you can't let your yard grass/weeds get higher than 8 or 10 inches. I you complain here the county will cut the yard and find the owner. I don't know if you have any ordinances like that or not. The high weeds can draw rodents, and deer ticks and who knows what else

One mans garden is another mans weeds. He may think his weeds are a form of xeriscaping, but probably he just doesn't want to take the time to control his weeds. If he seems like a nice man, maybe you could ask him pleasantly if he has any plans for his yard. If there is a law in your area about maintaining your yard, you may look into it and see if someone else would tell him his yard needs work.

Contact the code enforcement dept of your local government and see if there is any way they can come out and give him a summons. He will not know you are responsible, and most likely he will be given a certain number of days to fix the situation or pay a fine. I had to call on my neighbor and now his place is kept nice and tidy. It is very upsetting to have a property next to your own look like a junk yard. This reflects badly on you even though it is not your fault.

I guess the grass isn't always greener on the other guy's lawn. I know this is important to you. Otherwise, you wouldn't be bringing it up in Yahoo Answers. It probably interferes with your enjoyment of your own lawn and it may even affect housing values in your neighborhood.

I believe there is a simple solution that will work 65% of the time. And, that is to ask him if he'd mind your mowing his lawn. You can tell him you understand he's too busy to do it himself and that you have the time.

My guess is that he will start mowing his lawn either before or after you volunteer.

Mkae it a friendly, nonjudgmental conversation.

Fill balloons with a strong mixture of Roundup and water. Pitch them in his yard and you will kill the weeds and grass thereby not having to worry. Best if you can throw them from the neighbor on the other sides yard placing any suspected blame on that household.

Report this to Code Enforcement. Your will find the number under County or City Government depending where you live. Most communities have laws regulating property upkeep. They will contact the owner and will give him a certain time period to get it cut.

Usually if it gets too bad and its in the city limits, the city will cut it. But if its bothering you that bad maybe you and your neighbors should offer to cut it for him.

Madame M is the best choice....ask him, maybe he is having money problems. Perhaps you can come to an agreement. You cut his grass, his wife makes you cookies (or dinner)
