. . . or do you cut people off as soon as they hurt you?

The hurt can be intentional or unintentional. The point of asking is to poll people on how they view relationships and how they handle being hurt.

Eh, Bubbles, I realized it at 25. :)

Good question. It depends on what was done to cause the hurt. I have stopped talking to family members because they crossed the line with my child.

As for me getting hurt, if I value the person in my life, I'll try to communicate how I felt about what they did or said. If it's a pattern with them, then I just say "good bye". Life is way too short to spend it hurting from people that just don't care.

It's obvious that everyone u love will emotionally hurt u at some point because we don't expect the ones that we love to be the ones to hurt us.

I guess it's kinda complicated, but if u think about it, we expect our enemies and strangers to be ignorant and do things that will tick us off, so when they do it, we don't even pay attention to it...cuz we expected it. However, when we love somebody, we try our best NOT to hurt them, and we expect the same in return. Therefore, we don't have any sort of "guard" up and we're not expecting them to do something that would hurt us, so when they DO do it, it hurts us even more, cuz we weren't prepared for it.

When people hurt me, I don't cut them off all together, I just try to learn from it. I learn how to handle them when it comes to that situation, and I learn to keep at least a slight guard up towards them, that way it won't be as easy for them to hurt me again.

With all respect to that horrendous flick, love DOES mean having to say you're sorry.

Lots and lots of times.

The corollary of that is that love means having to say "I forgive you."

Lots and lots of times.

Working through the bumps in a relationship is work, but it's rewarding. Cutting and running over short-term hurt is self-injurious.

Love can't work on the "a thousand attaboys equals one awsh-t" principle. Work through the awsh-ts and accrue more attaboys.

according to the book soulmates, and all the rest of every book I've read on relationships It is said that yes eventually when you love someone you will and they will hurt you too. and it goes on to explain that most cases are unintentional, and it 's mainly because we lower our gaurd when we are in love and become vulnerable to be hurt.

It is bound to happen and it has happened to me before and not just once! Not just from my partner but from friends and family aswell! I handle it by going to my room and righting my feelings down in a book and that tends to make me feel a bit better.

Yes, I think that they will. so far yes answers it for my life. I Handle it by hurting then praying about it, [trying to] hold a grudge, and the I get over it eventually. I also try to help my family (and friends) when they are hurt by someone they love and who loves them. They help me, I help them.

You know, sometimes you have a gut feeling. And no matter how hard you try to wish it away, or how hard the other person tries to reassure you, you should listen to it, it's usually right.
