Yes information is very addictive and I'm both a user and a pusher. For example, someone will just bring up some minor point of complaint, like, "Went to Canada last year and every postcard I sent from there was lost. Not one arrived." To which I feel compelled to say, "Hey the Canadian postal service has been in decline since the Saturday mail delivery in Canada was eliminated on February 1, 1969!" When everyone looks at me, I know that my secret addiction has become obvious.
Then someone will say, "The traffic is just SO awful. Sometimes I think I could get to work faster on my bike rather than my car."
So I chime in with: "In Tokyo, a bicycle is faster than a car for most trips of less than 50 minutes!" Again I get those "what are you on?" looks.
Then some mother will complain that her local shop never seems to stock Animal Crackers and her two year old loves them. My response?
"Did you know that there are 18 different animal shapes in the Animal Crackers cookie zoo!" It is when I start to name them one by one: "hippo, lion, tiger, giraffe" that the whole group at my table in the pub get up and moves, leaving me alone still going down the list.
So yes I know exactly what you mean. The only time I have lots and lots of friends is during the weekly pub quiz. The sad life of an information junkie!

I am 59 years old and cannot remember when I was not questing for more knowledge, news and facts. Yes, that is true. Be the only one. There is nothing wrong with it. I have had the fortune to travel to 37 countries and 43 states. But I still want to see what is over the next hill, read the newspapers and listen to people.

I am renowned amongst family and friends for starting conversations with "you know, I was reading that ......." and then coming up with something from the internet, or the papers, or magazines. My criticism of myself, however, would be that I only seem to operate on these soundbites, I don't find the time to delve very deeply into any particular subject. Case of jack of all trades, master of none! How much is enough? Never enough.

I'm guilty. I like to know what's going on. My coworker calls me the walking encyclopedia of useless information, but if she needs to know something, especially if it's obscure, she asks me. I love to help out when I can.
