It is important to ask a physician about health problems. A dermatologist is a physician who specializes in skin problems. The most common form of acne is Acne vulgaris - as in "that is so vulgar!" Hair follicles and sebaceous gland (that produce oil in the skin) get blocked and become inflamed (swell up). Opportunistic bacteria on the skin multiply very easily which further inflames the skin. A dermatologist will be able to diagnose what type of acne you have and also suggest way to reduce the irritation on the skin. Diet will also help - stay away from oily and fatty foods, eat only moderate amounts of meats, and eat more green vegetables. Most importantly keep a positive attitude that your skin will shine and radiate joy!

I had horrible skin for years. The Dr. even put me on accutane and it didn't help.
I finally started using Cetaphil for oily skin cleanser. Followed by a baking soda w/ a small amount of water. I'd mix this to form a paste, and then use it as a scrub.
Then about twice a week I'd put milk of magnesia on my face, when it was dry after about 20 min. I'd wash it off.
Put oxy 10 on my face after washing. clearasil has stuff in it that could break out your skin if you have sensitive skin which people with acne usually do.
Trust me. This worked when nothing else did. Give it two weeks and see what it does.

I used to have bad acne. It was terrible. I started drinking water because I was in a diet. Well now that is all I drink because my face got so much better, water makes your skin look amazing. I also use Acne free which is a cheaper version of proactive. It works for me, and it does not smell bad like proactive, like someone said. Basically drink lots of water and wash your face with some type of cleanser (one you think is best). Good Luck!

I have the same problem. I've started using Cetaphil, Use a gentle cleanser and then a mositurizer/spf15. It's about $15 at Walmart. Proactive doesn't work for everyone. I called a determatolgist, they recomeded to try this.

Pretty simple- USE MOISTURIZER. Your skin could be dry because of the winter weather. Also, wash your face twice a day, and that's enough. Use vanishing cream once or twice a day and don't forget: Cleanse, Exfoliate, and then Tone. Use a mask once or twice a week and you can't go wrong. Use good makeup and get more than 8 hours of sleep a night. That's pretty much all. :]

Clinique 3 step products. It helps control the oil your skin produces and will stop acne.

I tried Proactive but it smells real awful and I couldn't stand to have it on my face.

It's really difficult to say what caused your acne. You should see a doctor if the obvious advice here don't work.
