I keep getting hardware failure or bad disc on my cd burner help?

I have tried different brands of cds. Don't know how to burn at slower speeds. what could be wrong?

1. Is the drive new and did you install it?
2. Did the drive come with the computer and is it under warranty?

If the drive is old the laser assembly could be misalighned or the controller PCB could be damaged. In any event you'd have to replace the drive.

You could purchase one from a store to try and than retunr the drive if you still get the same problem.
