I suffer from depression, plus I've gained some weight. I now have zero sex drive and it's hurting my relationship. My doc prescribed Wellbutrin but I don't know if it will help. Any suggestions? I'm really frustrated and I know my bf is too!

Just to clarify, I'm not some huge pig. I've gained a few pounds which make me feel gross. I'm not obese or overweight for my age/height.

It is expected that if you have depression, you sex drive will go down. Now in order to have your sex drive back, the doctors need to treat the depression first (MDD). As far as I know, if you are taking anti-depressants, it will take 2 - 4 weeks before you will feel better again and lively. So, just be patient if the drug has no effect in the first week, after 2 weeks, you will feel lively again. And sex will come into play.

I have many years of ups and downs with mood problems. One of the main characteristics of depression is a decreased sex drive. Unfortunately, many anti-depressants can have a side effect of decreased sex drive, too, as well as the unwanted side effect of weight gain. Also, many people gain weight when they are feeling depressed.

Give the med's a try. For many people, Wellbutrin doesn't cause weight gain, and some people lose weight on Wellbutrin. If your doc finds a med that makes the depression go away, your sex drive may return. I know that for many people, especially women, feeling unattractive makes you feel undesirable. Hopefully, your partner isn't so shallow that your weight is a problem.

I wish you the best. Be optimistic (I know that sounds stupid from someone who doesn't know how you feel). Work with your doc and this can be overcome. It could take a long time, but you WILL get to feeling better!

Well first you should concentrate on losing weight and getting into better shape. Because as long as you are caring around extra pounds you won't feel as attractive and that alone can kill your sex drive. Also I tend to wonder what your boyfriend is doing or not doing to help in this situation. Part of getting "excited" is a very long foreplay. Does he take the time to kiss you and touch you, and does he compliment you and tell you how beautiful you are? To set the mood, take a bath with candles only lit with a nice scented oil in the water. He can help by washing your back or just setting beside you and kissing your neck. Light candles in the bedroom too and make the setting as romantic as you can. Rub pure cocoa butter onto your skin. The smell drives men crazy, plus the oil on your skin is very nice while making out. Play some erotic music at a very low tone and talk dirty to him. Make him, really, really want you! It doesn't even matter if you gained those extra pounds, he probably won't care. You can be sooo sexy no matter how big your body is. It's all in the way you carry yourself, and the way you move and dress, and talk. Good luck honey!

it is because of those antidepressants... why are you depressed?

if there is a chemical imbalance backing it, you cannot do much about it - skip sex when you don't feel like - you cannot give up on the pills in that case

if the reason is something else (you know best!!!) then try to put yourself back on feet without pills first... change places, take a vacation, do something you LOVE to do and not sex, of course
I think your appetite will come back just fine if you begin to enjoy all other activities of life: eating, sleeping, sports, hanging out with friends, music, movies --- we all need variety
many are depressed because they are not having enough variety
you should try to find common hobbies with bf for the transition period (till you get rid of depression, for example)

just a question: are you taking contraceptives, too? did you know they cause depression, for MANY, and regardless of their high quality??? try to switch over to condoms for a while. maybe you won't even be depressed any longer (and thus you will wipe out the chemical imbalance story)

wish you fast recovery. your mind is your life. and your mind is in your hands. always.

Get busy finding ways to feel better about yourself. Mainly, getting busy will help. Try to avoid needing the anti depressents. The better you feel about yourself the more sex drive you'll have, the and it will have a snowball effect. Life will just get better.

i have a suggestion first ask your boyfriend to take a shower with you .But tell him this may not lead to sex but tell him you love him and want to try something different.Ask him to wash you and you wash him everywhere . Then if you are not heated enough now that you are very clean ask him to perform oral sex for you following your instuctions if this doesn't work dump him and get a girlfriend .

i've had welbutrin and it worked alright for the depression, but sometimes anti-depressants are a bummer with the drive. feels like you're in neutral or something just doesn't click as well.
