I think it would decrease the number of people dying on the way. I think it would be optimistic to think it would resolve the problem completely, but I think that if the people knew that there was a large fence or wall that would prevent their crossing, i can't help but wonder if they wouldn't try another way. Hopefully a less dangerous, legal path that would end in citizenship rather than artful dodging. I fail to see how the fence would increase the number of deaths unless it was an electric fence that would shock people, that would be too inhumane.

I don't think we should build a fence bordering us from Mexixo ,cause yes I do agree with you when you say a lot of people are dying crossing over it, but also that if you look back in history the states where many of the Mexicans are fleeing to once was their own land i forgot what year but the Mexicans along with Native Americans use to live in Texas, California, and Nevada a lot of those states in the west until the Spanish(Spain) came over and took over

it didn't work in berlin. what makes you think it will work for us? most of the land they are 'illegally crossing' belonged to them in the first place. why can't we share?
putting up physical barriers is not going to stopped the traffic into our country. its just going to force people to become creative or take risky chances.
the economic impact to the states that border mexico and those with agrarian interstate commerce would tear a giant whole in the wall (pun intended). who is going to do all the jobs that 'illegal' immigrants perform? i accept the discriminatory consumerist american ethos about manual labor. my family moved out the country fifty years ago. i garden for recreation.
i am not picking cabbage, oranges, or anything else for anyone except myself. i am not a mason, so i have no business at a construction site. i am not bussing tables at the westin. i am not working for a lawn maintanence service. i want breakfast at tiffanys not to pick tomatoes or mine diamonds.
NOT THAT THERE IS ANYTHING WRONG ABOUT ANY OF THOSE PROFESSIONS!!! I'M JUST USING THEM AS EXAMPLES TO MAKE MY POINT!!
(i actually would perform all of those tasks for a decent salary.)
i just think the idea is stupid!! if we policed the border efficiently then it wouldn't be an issue. this is just any other smoke screen by the government to divert our attentions from iraq and the international community laughing at our assinine foreign policies.

Why "shouldn't we not"? You make no sense.
Maybe the Native Americans should have built a fence.
I think we should change the laws to make it easier for people who want to come over here legitimately and work to do so. Do you know how expensive it is for people to come over here? If I can't afford to feed my family in Mexico or Honduras or somewhere how do you expect me to pay the fees to come here legitimately. If I don't know anyone here how do you expect me to provide the paperwork showing that someone here will help support me if the US let's me come in (yes they have to show income tax forms and birth certificates for family who already are citizens and are willing to support them). What then are my options? To sneak over here. If some laws are changed, we could keep better track of who is coming in, they can pay taxes on their earnings instead of getting paid under the table, we can hold employers accountable for paying fair and decent wages, and we can save lives in the form of crime victims and immigrants. I just find it interesting how Americans take offense with some immigrants and not others.

Why? let's try to take it from an immigrants point of view. Most Immigrants come to the United states to work ( not all, but most). They come here to give their family a better life than the one they had back at home. They come searching the " american dream" even though they are treated like sh@#. They come here to escape the poverty in which they live. And how do people treat them? with disrespect. My dad is Mexican (mom is Boricuan and Cuban) and I always here him tell me stories about how poor his family was. How he came looking for that dream. Only few achieve that dream for others are mistreated badly. So what do I say: Support the Immigrants, for they are humans too!

im kind of "on the fence" for this question.
I think we should build a fence because they are illegaly immigrating over here. I live in texas, so they come straight over here aand take the jobs. It really doenst effect me because im a business owner, but still......
then again, i think its wasting government money. They need to focus on more important things like bringing our troops back home.

I think its a waste of Americans time and money we could be spending it on things that actually matter. Mexicans arent hurting anyone. Why cant we waste this money on something like terrorism or education?

Because they would just jump over the fence. We should set up giant roach motels instead. DOUBLE NEGATIVES ROCK! GOOD QUESTION!

I think that we shouldn't even bother. What harm do you know of Mexicans doing? I don't understand why they round up all those who LOOK Mexican and check IDs and such. It's pretty racist, actually.
