Coffee/tea/cocoa samplers have gone over well in the past, but that's getting old, and now that my daughter is in middle school we don't know her teachers as well. There is only one lady teacher, the others are all men.

Great answers so far, everyone. Sadie, I meant my idea of coffee samplers was getting old, not the teachers. I'd like to hear from some more teachers too, if possible.

I am a teacher and, although I appreciate any gift because that means the student has thought of me, I do really like gift cards, especially to Borders or Barnes and Noble. The other gifts mentioned here are things that we always get and have tons of. Unfortunately, the gifts mentioned prior are those types of gifts that tend to be "regifted" or donated to others. I hope this helps!

*Personalised Totes

*Gift certificates from Starbucks, the local bookstore, the local stationary store, office supply store.

*A basket with pens, pencils, erasers and other small classroom items. Teachers go through dozens of these items each school year. It’s wonderful when a parent helps replenish the supply.

*If you know the teacher is a coffee drinker, a ½ pound or even a full pound of gourmet coffee is a great treat. If you know the teacher is a tea drinker, an assortment of teas can make a nice gift.

* Gift baskets: Gift baskets can be tailored to suit any taste or any person and have evolved to reflect the different people and personalities. These can have loads of different stuff.

*Fine Art: A painting, handicraft piece, a sculpture and handmade products.

I don't know anybody who doesn't love getting homemade chocolate chip cookies. Get some inexpensive holiday tins at WalMart, bake dozens of cookies, put white tissue paper in the tin and fill it up with cookies. Stick a bow on the top and make a little gift card. This kind of gift is unisex and is always appreciated. Whatever you do don't waste your money on anything cutesy or useless. Especially at the middle school level, teachers have closets full of that kind of stuff. It's nice to be remembered, though, so your thoughts are going to be well received. I've never gone wrong with the cookies.

Not all teachers are old! Candles, teddy bears etc., useless. If you wouldn't want 15 of them sitting in your house, why would they? Chocolates are probably a safe bet, if a little "old," but likely if your daughter is in middle school, the teacher's aren't expecting anything anyway. A nice card with a Starbucks (or something like it) would go over well.

well the lady teacher could be a bear but a Christmas bear, with a bag of candy or something. And foe the rest of the teachers maybe a coffee cup with candy inside of it. Or maybe a decoration for a table like a Santa snowman.

Gift cards-especially to office supply stores or teacher stores- are great ideas. Any supplies for the classroom would be greatly appreciated (Kleenex, hand sanitizer, pencils, pens). Or you or your daughter could write a thank you note to the teacher for all the hard work they do!
