Well, looking it up, it looks to me like it's a way of multiplying 2-digit numbers using algebra.

If you wanted to do 64 x 85 for instance, you can write it as:

(60 + 4)(80 + 5)

And then do FOIL:
60x80 = 4800
4x80 = 320
5x60 = 300
4x5 = 20
--------
5440

um going off a chem term for this

i believe it means the whole is composed of its parts

like TOTAL = A+B+C+....N

sooo if u have a drink and u know its 500 ml, and 200 of that is water that means 300 of it is soemthing else.
