Young guys get a condition called costochondritis-it is basically an inflammation of the cartilage and bones in the chest wall. The exact cause is unknown but trauma can bring it on . Sometimes it just starts up for no apparent reason and is most common from ages 20-40. Try checking it out on yahoo- simply enter costochondritis and you will get all sorts of hits. NOW- even though this does not seem to be cardiac you need to have this ruled out by a Dr. Any time there is chest pain it should be properly diagnosed and not by us on the internet. I see a lot of costochondritis in my job and suspect it could easily be this . Best of luck.

Smoking could be a factor, and physical stress at the moment if you are not physically active. It's probably a muscle spasm in that region. I get them. They can feel like a little heart attack. It's best to have it checked to rule out heart problems. Go to the doc. And if you're "only" smoking 4 a day, it won't be that hard to quit. (I did over 6 years ago.) So quit smoking! It'll save you money on your life insurance payments, at the very least. Good luck.

It is not enough data. How long did the pain last? Does it radiate to your left arm and neck? What is the intensity of the pain from 1 - 10 with 10 being the most painful? Do your family has history of heart diseases or heart attacks? Answers to these questions are pertinent to a correct assessment of your problem
What you need to do is go to the nearest clinic or hospital for medical personnel to further assess your problem.

Given that you say it's worse with certain positions, it sounds muscular. Have you done any heavy lifting lately? There's the possibility of an infection if you're coughing, maybe producing yellow or green phlegm or if the pain's worse on inspiration.
If the pain's cardiac, it would more likely be crushing, constant pain; possibly radiating to your jaw or left arm. Unrelieved by different positions etc and may be accompanied by nausea, sweating, clamminess, shortness of breath.
At your age you don't really have to worry about that yet, but if you're concerned, go to your GP for advice.

Because it is positional and can be duplicated by movment it is not likely a heart related chest pain.
Typically those are constant despite movement and radiate into the arm (mostly left sided)It probably is a pulled muscle. If it returns, radiates or
makes you short of breath don't wait to see if it goes away, go to the ER

Hey, it could be two things.
1 it could be a pulled chest muscle, that is caused from the way you may of been sleeping.
2 It could be a inflamed chest wall, which I suffer a lot with.I take Heartburn and indigestion medicine to try and relieve acid gases around the chest Wall, to the instructions of my doctor.
if you wanna ask anymore questions about it, email me.

get it checked by your doc but chest pains don't always mean heart problem but if you have Angina symptoms that being jaw ache and pain down left arm then you have a heart problem but it could be just a build up of wind or indigestion but more like a pulled muscle but i still suggest a visit to the surgery!! Don't worry its treatable
