I know this is really random but I have a dog and two cats. When they sleep their bodies twitch almost frantically.
I know humans may have a quick muscle spasm while they sleep, but that's still different from the animals.
Anybody know why that is? What's going on with them?

They are in the REM cycle of sleep, dreaming, like humans do :) Sometimes you can even see cats or dogs moving their paws as if they are dreaming of chasing something ^^

It depends. They can twitch during REM sleep just as humans can. They can also twitch or the same reason humans can as they fall asleep. If they lead enriched lives, they could very well have very interesting/dramatic dreams during REM sleep that will cause them to twitch.

As others have noted, your pets are probably dreaming. Every cat or dog I've ever had has done this. Even my pet rabbits do this. What I find particularly hilarious is they must dream about eating because they move their mouths like they are chewing! :-)

They are dreaming. My friends dog even moves her paws like shes running when she sleeps:)

my cat does that too and i think it's cuz they are dreaming of chasing something or other.
