It depends on what you mean by "west"?
We in California think anything west of our Sierra Nevada range is east. I'm pretty sure that people who live on the east coast, though, think the Rocky Mountains are in the western part of the United States.
You really need to redefine your question more precisely.
If, however, you cannot. If the question has to stand as it is, then the answer has to be the Rocky Mountain range. (Has to be cuz pretty much all the google sites i pulled up and scanned agree--and i'm not gonna argue with google!)
