In general the nonmetals are found on the upper-right side, and the metals are found on the lower-left side. Most periodic tables have a heavy border drawn between metallic and nonmetallic elements.

Start a line between Boron and Aluminum and step down and over by each element. To the left are metals and to the right are nonmetals.

The reality is that it is not a real clean break. Some the the elements along the line have some properties of both, for instance some conduct electricity, although they are not on the metal side. Since they do not conduct well they only 'semiconductor'. Making they good for . . .well semiconductors. These elements are called metalloids.
