i know i should know this stuff by now but i done mainly science based stuff before this yr @uni now i need to write an essay, can i say 'i think...' etc this is for an essay about education in the UK...
if i cant say i think, what are the alternatives?

Using "I" or "we" or "you" etc. is called the the first-person, and formal essays are not written in the first-person format. You can always use the word "one" instead.
Plus, the phrase "I think" is weak and unnecessary in essays. Obviously, what you believe what you're writing, so why do you have to tell everyone?

On the Internet there is a site called "How to Write an Essay." Do not copy anyone else's--you will be caught and get a bad grade. Anyway, it is called "plagarianism" and that is wrong.
Use your library for references on your subject. Look up the subject of education in the UK on the Internet. But don't copy word for word. Good luck.

You can certainly use your opinion when writing an essay unless it is supposed to be a research paper. Your opinions belong in this paper. You can use such phrases as " in my opinion ", " it is my belief that" You don't want to use "I think" too often, it can be used, but you don't want to keep repeating the same phrase. Good luck.

my teacher always said that saying i think makes you sound stupid or like you're just guessing on the subject not really knowing about it...or something like that...so i never use i think in essays anymore...just say something like Education in the UK has similiarites to the united states way of teaching. something like that...that's what i would do
