California is a huge State.

I simplified it in 3 important points.

You will hit California after 980 miles, 1568 kms

You will hit San Francisco after 1,320 miles, 2,112 kms

You will hit San Diego (far South) after 1, 830 miles, 2,928 kms.

Now! You can make your calculation. If you don't enjoy Washington and Oregon, and travel 12 hours a day, 60 miles/hour (100 kms) ... you will hit the North of California after 16 hours driving (with 4 hours the second day)

Only you know how many hours days heading South you wish to do in a day. I recommend what I frequently did: I would take at least 7 days to reach San Diego ... after frequent stops.
