I'm looking for ideas for some movies to show at my school's GSA's movie night. It's going to be around Valentine's day, so we're looking for something sweet, not depressing, possibly a coming out movie but any ideas? oh, and they should be blatantly gay, with people who are out or coming out as gay, but maximum R rating, as this is for school. Thanks!

Check out a movie called Latter Days. It is so romantic and sad. It is about a mormon boy who falls in love with another guy. He gets exhiled by the church and basically disowned by his family who puts him in a mental institution and then tells the guy he is in love with he committed suicide. In the end they end up together. It is probably the most realistic show concerning homosexuality today that is out there. The rating is either PG-13 or R. There is very mild nudity.

Try "Beautiful Thing." It's a story about two teenage boys who against a few insurmountable odds fall in love. It's such a great movie and the only one that brought tears to my eyes that I can remember--the ending is soooo awesomely sweet and honest, I don't think anyone would walk away feeling like they'd been conned into "feeling" for the characters. Great for teens because if memory serves, there's no blatant sexual scenes. It's all about the love. And also try "The Absolutely True Adventures of Two Girls In Love." Two teen girls, different sides of the tracks, fall in love. It's a classic. Both of the girls are pretty "famous" actresses now (one starred in the cable series "Soul Food" and the other is now gaining recognition as a cast member of Showtime's "The L Word".) You can't go wrong with either of these. I hope I got the titles right--if not, pretty, pretty close.

I say you go with Get Real. It's a British film from the late 90s. It's an amazing coming out story of a teen boy in a suburban town. I first watched it when I was in high school and I look at it as one of my defining moment of coming to terms with myself as gay.

As far as your concerns, the movie is rather innocent. There are a few kisses, and it shows one of the boys naked bottoms at one point, but it's not during a sex scene, it's when he gets out of bed in the morning. The movie is rather tasteful I think. There are no drugs or major debaucheries etc.

I've posted the Internet Movie Database (IMDB) page about the movie below.

First off, well done to your school. Not that often you hear schools wanting to portray Gays especially around Valentines day lol ; )
There are heaps of really Good gay movies
Imagine me and you : its about a Straight female who falls in love with her flower girl designer at her wedding. ( kind of love at first sight). Its properly the cutest movie i have seem for a while. She ends up breaking up with her husband and choosing the Girl ; )
Kissing Jessica Stein : Its about a Journalist who gets tired of dud dates with guys so she try the personals and finds a girl. She has real bad intimacy problems so its a bit of a struggle at the start. Its fairly funny : )
Loving Annabelle : ( Not to sure if you want to show this at school seeing the story line lol) its a bout one student one teacher one secret. Student falls for her teacher they have a prohibited romance. Not a bad story line.
V is for Vendetta : Its about a guy that puts a city into chaos because he is fitting for a lesbian couple rights (there is a really good scene you could use in this one) He wears a mask and bombs parts of the city's and kills people who worked in this experiment with the couple. Weird but good movie.
There are a few others but these will properly help you out most. If you need more just let me know : )
Good luck

Big Eden (http://www.amazon.com/Big-Eden-Arye-Gross/dp/B0000639HT/sr=1-4/qid=1165540951/ref=sr_1_4/102-9532857-6636966?ie=UTF8&s=dvd) is a really sweet gay movie. Henry is an artist in New York City who goes home to his small town in Montana when his grandfather has a heart attack. Henry is excited to find that his (male) high school crush is back home too, and newly divorced and possibly gay. Then there's Pike, the (male) owner of the general store who is sweet and painfully shy, especially around Henry, since he has a crush on Henry. It's a really sweet feel-good romance with a lot of comedy and some beautiful scenery. Also, nothing more than kissing so it wouldn't be objectionable.

In and Out. Kevin Kline kisses Tom Selleck. Funny and sweet. Intelligent. Priceless. Definitely your best bet. Has a ton of mainstream appeal. With Matt Dillon, Joan Cusack, Wilford Brimley, Bob Newhart, and the name Barbra Streisand is tossed about appropriately. (P H U K K Barbra Streisand!!!the jilted bride screams....hehe)

Maurice.

Wilde. About Oscar Wilde as played by that guy from Blackadder (Steven Fry?), and Bosie as played by Jude Law.

Bound. (gay females) Just make sure you don't get the unrated version. Too hot too handle.

It's in the Water. (gay females)

But I'm a Cheerleader. (gay female romance; gay male supporting characters)

edited to add: probably shouldn't get Brokeback Mountain. It is a tearjerker, but quite boring in some places. Your best bet is 'In and Out.' It is entertaining throughout, and doesn't have enough same sex action to gross out anybody.

My vote is for one no one probably ever heard of but happens to be the best coming out movie I've ever seen. It's called Summer Storm. Not to be missed. It is a German movie with subtitles, but trust me, after the first 5 minutes you won't even notice they're not speaking English. This film is clever. funny, wise, and above all, real. Again I tell you, not to be missed.

Latter Days was good. There's 1 scene with the 2 guys making out, then they do end up in bed together but you don't see anything except a little skin. Saw it on Logo.

All Over Me (some parts are depressing, but it is a very good movie about a teenage lesbian starring Leisha Hailey who is the singer for the Murmurs and is now on the L word as Alice)
Better Than Chocolate (cute, sweet, funny lesbian movie)
When Night is Falling (well-filmed, very sexy and cinematic about a mythology professor who falls in love with a circus performer)
But I'm a Cheerleader (very funny satire, starring Natasha Lyonne and Clea Duvall)
