If you spend time in a country, and get to know the features of a particular race, it is possible to be able to pick certain features - example - I'm Italian, and have spent lots of time in Spain, but most times I can pick the difference between an Italian, Spaniard, or a Greek person - also, people always pick me for being Italian - so there must be something in it! From travelling, I hear a lot of people putting down the 'typical' English look - many people say they are plain or ugly (I'm not saying that) - and maybe this is why some don't like to say they are English. I don't know - but England is so racially mixed now, like most countries, it is becoming more difficult. But all races do have particular traits. English and Swedish are typically fair skinned, but it is usually possible to pick the difference I would think.

I'm not sure I quite understood your question as I've never heard of an English person who tried not to look English (I live in England, by the way).
That being said, and contrary to what a few people have said, yes, sometimes, you can say where a person is from. I mean, not always. But sometimes. For example, I'm French, but people think I'm Italian (and I look like my Italian great-grandmother, actually). And, yes, there are body-types, and I definitely think that some English people do look English (although there isn't just one type of English-looking people, and it doesn't work all the time)

The English dont 'look' any particular way! We are all different, Blonde Brunette Red or Black with skin tone to match! Due to the fact that we are descended from all the different peoples who at one time or another invaded the country!
Spaniards tend to be dark haired with Olive skin tone but that description also fits my very English Brother and his daughter. So much so that when on holiday in Spain people think they are locals and talk to them in Spanish. Italians and Portugese also fit that look!
I've never heard of anyone 'denying' they look English!
Swedish People look like other Scandinavians usually Blonde, Blue-eyed and quite pale skinned!
It really is impossible to judge Europeans and Americans by looks alone!

Who are these English who deny they look English? I've never met any of them - and I am one. I kind of assume I look English because I am English.
Having said that, I have been mistaken for a Dane in Denmark, until I tried speaking the two words of Danish I'd picked up and got laughed at.
Can't say it's something that occupies much of my time. You can usually have a good guess at where somebody is from based on their clothes, bag (if they have one), skin, hair and eye colouring etc., but it's not foolproof.
It's easy to spot Brits abroad, though. And Germans.

Well i am Greek and no one thinks that i look Greek but does it really matter? I am currently living in the UK and i haven't seen any one here trying to deny to "look" English. We are all people and our characteristics or our nationality shouldn't bother anyone. The English people that i have met while i am here are very kind, extremely friendly and very proud of their nationality.

Yes there are folks who look very ENGLISH!
I am English - but funnily enough are you the twin I was seperated from at birth? And are you ENGLISH?
But seriously I do not really UNDERSTAND your question, what is the problem with looking English, I quite like the English and am very proud to be so. Have a nice day.
