Is there any other model or year that would have the same transmission as my truck the one I just discribed above?

If its automatic, I would try to find a 95-97 that came from a S-10 2WD 4.3. I know a 94 won't work because they changed the TCC solenoid and they may have changed solenoids in 98 but I'm not sure if it required a different PCM program. Get one from a 2wd because a tranny from a 4wd will have a different tailshaft
If its a manual you don't have to be real picky as there is not much PCM control as with the autos where the PCM controls shifting and everything else

It shouldn't be too difficult to find one, S10s are 'a dime a dozen'! Check the local bone yards but ask for guarrantee on the condition.

what kind of transmission do you have? auto or manual.
a manual shouldn't be too hard to swap with any s10. and there's lots of those crappy little blazer suv's will do as well.
an auto you might need one closer to your year, if there are sensors and such that need to go in there.
