We recently had a home movie break while in the vcr. It's a clean diagonal slice and I was just wondering if there's any way to tape it back together....or another way to repair it at home.

You can tape it together, but you have to make sure that you tape both sides of the tape together or it will just come apart again. You may lose a half-second of audio/video, but you wouldn't have to throw it away. They make splicing blocks, but unless you're really into it, it's just a waste of money.

You can use tape to put it back together, but only so that you can play it while you copy it. The break and the tape can clog and damage the heads. Most home VCRs have 2 or 4 rotating heads - the part of the vcr that spins against the tape and reads it. Replacing that heads will cost more than buying a new VCR.

Overlap the two broken pieces and cut with a razor blade to get exact match cut, throw away the bad ends, then tape the two good pieces together with scotch tape. Works great!

the scotch tape works well in a pinch, but radio shack sells a
video tape repair kit that may last longer (you might want to convert you're tapes into dvd's).

I've repaired audio tape with scotch tape and it actually works, except for the section you repair.
