I have a 3 Year Old Son who is diagnosed with Autism, and here in MA where we live, he is enrolled in the Public Schools 5 Day a week PreK, attending 2 Full Days, and 3 Half Days. He receives ABA, OT, Speech, PT, and APE. He is Part of an Inclusion Program, and attends School Part of the Time in the Severe Special Needs Room, and the other Part of the Time in with Moderate Special Needs to Model Children. The Teacher to Student ratio is good, especially on his Full Days, when it is 1:1. The problem is we cannot afford nor do we really want to live in Massachusetts. We would really like to buy land somewhere, perhaps in North Carolina or even out West in Idaho, but we don't want to do the wrong thing. He does have an IEP, which means wherever we move they have to provide similar services, but I was hoping people who have Autistic Children from other parts of the country could share their experiences. I'd really love to know what State has the best Services for these kids!

I teach special education in Wisconsin, and do know that people who have children with Autism move here because of the services our state offers. Good luck!

Our school district, in Kansas, has some excellent resources for students with autism. We have several self-contained classrooms for high functioning autistic/aspergers students at all 3 levels (elementary, middle and high). We also have self contained classrooms for extremely lower functioning students. Our district however, is very pro-inclusion, and uses the self contained classrooms as a last resort. We also have strong connections with the University of Kansas, which has one of the strongest special ed programs in the country, and one of the few programs that offers a masters and doctoral degrees in special education with an autism focus.

My brother has Asperger's Syndrome and my mother is closely involved in RAMP and things like that. She thinks it's Texas, but if you have a OASIS program, you should contact them and ask. To locate them you can open up a google or other search engine adn type in "OASIS Asperger's" and it'll provide you with an Autism support group. Many parents have moved for the sake of their special needs child, they'll be able to help you. It is run by Barb Kirby, who also lives in the east coast. I hope this was helpful. :)

I don't have an autistic kid - but I can tell you as an educator that is very hard to find another state that will give a kid with any time of special needs that is better than Massachusetts.

I can't tell you which one is best, but having worked with autistic kids in school settings (doing PT), I can tell you the best IS NOT Missouri. See if you can research anything on Iowa or Minnesota, they have excellent track records with their educational systems.

Don't come to Texas. They will just put him in Title 1.
My sister lives in NC and says it has similar progams.
