I will give you a pointer. Try looking up the other side of it. Not if your topic is endangered hyenas or something, but did you know there have been global warming trends on Jupiter, Saturn, Pluto, Neptune, Mars, AND THE SUN for about as long as we've had those trends?
Don't do open ocean either. That's just stupid. Oil drilling rigs cause bad things, yes. But some have been shut down because they add between 38 and 42 pounds of lead to the water a year, when the water flowing past the station every day contained 39 to 43 pounds.
How about an estuary, or a smaller body of water, like silt in a local lake caused by runoff not being absorbed by pavement, or the eutrophication of the Chesapeake?

How about going in the opposite direction and reporting on the successes of a program, (like the resurgence of the Bald Eagle) which is member of the hawk family by the way, and what still needs to be done. Even overfishing, or something a with a little less limelight. Half the people in your class will want to cover something about the rain forest, or global warming. Even general recycling or gasohol as opposed to corn alcohol would be good topics. Go to PBS.org and look through their show rosters, to see what's an upcoming concern. Wish you the very best.

Global warming. related topics>> extreme weather, melting of glaciers, polar ice-caps
The ozone layer is already in the process of healing, since legislation banning CFC's and other such stuff was enacted a decade ago or so. but global warming is steadily spiralling out of control. global warming doesn't just make things hotter, it heightens the extremes. several scientists have linked several extreme weather events including katrina to global warming, and they have a very solid case, backed by figures & facts.
The line that every critic of global warming uses is: "just because you can't prove that you're 100 % correct, i'm gonna assume that you're 100% wrong, and i claim, in the absence of complete proof, that global warming is fake." This lawyerisation of an environmental issue is costing the globe a lot.
i advise you watch the documentary movie 'An Inconvenient Truth'. the very loud criticism against it has been prominently from republican-biased media (read: fox news). more than a thousand of the smartest people in the world have unflinchingly warned about global warming. but their papers are all limited to the scientific journals, and we have absolutely inexperienced 'experts' coming on tv shows and criticizing the work of people much smarter than themselves. I guess every1 loves being a smartass once in a while!
watch the movie, it'll open your eyes to something that we all should have been informed about!
and check out http://www.stopglobalwarming.org
if you cant get the movie, download it using torrent. http://www.torrentspy.com/
(readers, don't get picky, there's is a much bigger issue at hand than piracy!)

why don't you look at one aspect of a not-so-worst case of global warming. e.g a loss of a species, or change in a species, or plant growth in particular areas.
maybe you could come up with some ideas from this article:
